If they were spontaneous, appearing when needed and receding when not, they would serve their noble purpose.<br /><br />But they don't go away. They eat enormous amounts of their member's incomes and then convince the workers that they are worth more than they actually are to justify their existence. They encourage sloth and cause a huge drag on the economy. <br /><br />Allow me one story of the dozens I have collected. My friend is a union plummer. He spends half of every year unemployed. There are jobs available, but He is not allowed to take them because they are non-union shops. The union will take away all of his 'benefits' if he tries to work for anyone besides them. While he barely makes his house payment, the union president plays 18 holes nearly every day. Now that is power to the people!<br /><br />Ever wonder why Detroit is in such big trouble?
